RAINY DAY AT 4AFRICA!

RAINY DAY AT 4AFRICA!

Rain is very important for life. All living things need water to live, even people. Rain brings us the water we need. But in many places in the world even where we live, heavy rain has become a menace especially when it comes to work.

Women start their beautiful day with a lot of joy due to the on going activities, available work to earn living for their families. Here comes rain rain rain!, which floods the whole place to the extent of flooding the workshops with dirty water. Work is put to a stand still due to disturbance from the heavy rains.

Oops time clocks to go home yet rain is still pouring. How to get home, every body wonders! But still we have to go home. Day of work interrupted by rain. WHAT A RAINY DAY!

Design is Everything

Design is Everything

maren-week6

We started the new year in 4Africa by receiving a visit from Maren Moe Stokke all the way from Norway. It is only four months since the last time she was here. She is a clever designer who has been working with us in design development of jewelry products for a week. We are very proud to collaborate with her.

The first time Maren visited 4Africa, she got an introduction of how to make paper beads. One of the ladies took her through the process step by step; cutting, rolling, gluing and varnishing. This time, however, Maren was the one to introduce ladies to new ways of making use of the traditional techniques. Together they experimented different paper sizes. The new sized beads were tested in existing products, as well as new designs.

There is no limit of imagination when we are working on new designs. Creativity and curiosity are the main ingredients to be used in the process. All kinds of materials and different possibilities deserve a try. The ideas are reaching new heights when Africans and Scandinavians are putting their heads together. Why not explore the possibility in leather? What about cow horn? And clay beads? Or metal, maybe?

A week is not too much, so time was used efficiently the days Maren was around. Even the very last day in Uganda before she left for Norway, Maren and some members from 4Africa went to Makerere University in order to learn more about metal. Teacher Dorah showed her portfolio and displayed different samples of what can be done.

The outcome of our design week will still remain a secret for some time, but we can reveal to you that we do not only have one new concept in mind. Fireworks of spectacular new jewelry are in store this summer!

Training New Recruits in Tailoring Project!

Training New Recruits in Tailoring Project!

As enriching our vision of providing sustainable improved life conditions for vulnerable groups such as for the poor/HIVAIDS positive women in Uganda, we are having a new group that is being trained in the tailoring project. It is to run for 4 to 6 months. The new women are so happy and glad that they are now part of the organisation. For the women being helped gives them hope for the future that in a long run,  they can help themselves.

MEET ROSE KATUSHABE. «4AFRICA’S COOK»

MEET ROSE KATUSHABE. «4AFRICA’S COOK»

MY DAILY ROUTINE AT 4AFRICA

I am Rose Katushabe, a cook at 4Africa. I started working with the Organization in 2012 till to-date. My daily chores are mainly with in the kitchen area and the house hold at large.

I normally report to work at 6:00 am and start with the general cleaning inside the premises. But before that, I first do the shopping for what I am to use while preparing the meals. I later light up the charcoal stove to prepare breakfast for the Ladies and staff members. Breakfast is served at around 9:30 - 10:00 am. In the course of washing utensils used for breakfast, I prepare lunch.

I usually serve lunch from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. When Lunch is served, I boil water for drinking for the following day. Then embark on cleaning the Utensils used for lunch and around the kitchen area where I do most of my activities from.

I really so much love my job though some times when it rains, I am delayed with my activities since there is no shelter where I cook from. I some times get chest and  back pain due to carrying heavy sauce pans.

But all in all, I rejoice in my Job and I am grateful for 4Africa for the opportunity given to me!

Power supply, Security Measures & 4Africa car

Power supply, Security Measures & 4Africa car

Trolltech Foundation is a Norwegian non-profit charitable foundation which aims to help people in developing areas of the world. We have been privileged as an organisation to be one of the beneficiaries of this foundation. Great impact has been realised with the installation of the Solar panel to reduce on the utility bills in case power is off. The Generator which is helpful in the production of products since power supply from the solar can not accommodate the machines. The Installation of electric razor wires for safety and security purposes at the premises and acquisition of 4Africa car which has eased the transport means of our ladies, now they arrive to work at the expected time and this has also enhanced their income in a positive way. All this is accredited to the Trolltech Foundation for the support towards the 4Africa.
